David Glazier, born 1897. Traveller/tailor lived Cheetham, Manchester. Enlisted 14/4/1917, to 60 Squadron, trade Batman. Glazier’s service papers are rubber stamped with a warning regarding information usage under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and spent convictions. Whatever was included in his papers regarding this is now missing/removed.
Local and national newspapers in 1942 refer to this man (Full name David Henry Glazier) being involved in a forged clothing (ration) coupon racket with a number of other members of the Manchester Jewish community. The case was significant and reported nationally. The forger, Jack Hayman Cohen (25) received a three year sentence; Nine more were found guilty including Glazier who received six months imprisonment for possession.
60 squadron claimed 320 aerial victories during the Great War. Twenty-six flying aces served in the squadron during the war including Albert Ball.
David Glazier is listed in the British Jewry Book of Honour 1914-1920.
