Thomas John Loney, born Belfast 4th Nov 1882. A painter, enlisted 1904. Joined RFR Aug 1914. Joined Howe Battalion Royal Naval Division 15th Sept 1914. Mentioned in Despatches for Gallipoli campaign. Back to the Royal Navy in 1916. His record also notes: “ An expression of appreciation & thanks of the C & C Channel Fleet conveyed to this man for bravely attempting to save a comrade from drowning in Weymouth Bay on 27/7/08.”
